In February of this year Cyclone Marcia devastated the region I call home. It affected alot of people, including myself. After the cyclone I became displaced and was offered to live on a property outside of Yeppoon. The place didn't have power, but I was apperciative for the shelter.
I embraced the extended camp like lifestyle for over 7 months. Making fires for light, cooking on gas burners, keeping food in eskies, all became habits of daily life, and even changed the way I made my art.
It became fitting when Lincoln Bertoli a local author stumbled across my work online and wanted to collaborate in the making of a childrens book about Cyclone Marcia. We recieved the backing of council and the project began. Lincoln wrote the story over a few weeks and then I had the task of putting imagery to his beautiful storyline. 16 etchings over 7 weeks, all of which came out very naturally.
The launch of our book will be released on the first year anninversay of Marcia, and will tour to the local schools, and a special release of limited edition signed copies will be available online.
